Live Machu Picchu Virtual Tour

In 2007, Machupicchu was named one of the new seven wonders of the modern world. Located above the Urubamba river valley, it is an ancient Incan citadel located in the heights of the Andes Mountains in Peru. Built in the 15th century, it is famous for its sophisticated dry-stone walls that combine huge blocks without the use of mortar. The gorgeous structure and its exact use remains a mystery because it was abandoned. Machupicchu Citadel is a place where you can disconnect from the outside world and receive a new kind of energy. Being at the peak of an ancient civilization produces a lot of emotions. Some of these feelings cannot be explained. To feel its power is almost mystical. I remember the stories my grandparents told us, describing the power my ancestors had to do anything they wanted. The Inca had a special connection with all the spirits and gods (Apus) of the Earth. They believed everything was alive and had a spirit, which gave them so much respect for their surroundings. They built ceremonial enclosures and had many rituals; one for the earth (Pachamama), one for the Water (Ushnus), and the most importantly, one for the sun (Inti Raymi). Everyone has read about the mountain in their books, heard about its beauty from friends, or dreamed about scaling its paths. Some have traveled here when they were young, and returned for the mystical feeling when they are old. For some, it is a feeling that pounds in their chests; for some, it is one that makes you start to cry; for others, they stand at the peak of the citadel with no words left in them. What will your reaction be? I remember a poem that captures what a person can feel when reaching Machupicchu. Here is a small taste: "Then up the ladder of the earth, I climbed, through the barbed jungle's thickets until I reach you Machu Picchu. Tall city of stones stacked up in steps, at last a dwelling where what is earthly was not hidden under slumbering clothes.” -Pablo Neruda, Nobel Prize, 1971
